Growing Gloxinia
Tropical tuber. Deciduous. Stands to 1 ft. (30 cm) tall. Oblong, finely toothed, midlength, hairy green leaves, often with reddish undersides.

Year-round indoors, summer outdoors. Blue, orange, pink, purple, red, white, yellow, often banded or speckled with contrasts. One to two nodding, funnel-shaped, sometimes ruffled flowers per stem, to 5 in. (13 cm) wide.

Where and How to Plant
Early summer in partial shade, outdoors; year-round, indoors. Space 1 ft. (30 cm) apart, 1 in. (25 mm) deep. In containers sized at least 2 in. (50 mm) wider than tuber, one to a container.
Proper Care
Easy. Keep moist during growth. Fertilize monthly during growth. Mulch. Protect from rain, wind. Propagate by cuttings, division, seed.

Dark, 60°F (16°C), in net bag or open basket of dry peat moss or pot of barely damp soil.
About This Species
