Growing Habranthus
Summer bulb. Tropical evergreen. About 10 species. Stands to 9 in. (23 cm) tall. Narrow, straplike, arching, midlength to long green leaves.
Commonly cultivated species include rain lily, Habranthus brachyandrus; pink fairy lily, Habranthus robustus; and Rio Grande copper lily, Habranthus tubispathus (formerly Habranthus andersonii).

Flowers
Summer; may bloom again in autumn. Copper, pink, purple, red, white, yellow. Solitary or multiple flared, trumpet-shaped flowers, to 3 in. (75 mm) wide.

Soil Type and Fertility
Moist, well-drained soil. Fertility: Average. 6.0–7.0 pH.
Where and How to Plant
Spring in full sun to partial shade. Space 3–6 in. (75–150 mm) apart, 1–2 in. (25–50 mm) deep.
Proper Care
Moderate. Keep moist in late spring, dry after bloom. In zones 9–11, resume watering after 4 weeks for repeat bloom. Fertilize during growth. Mulch. Propagate by offsets, seed.
Lifting and Storing
Dark, 40–50°F (4–10°C), in net bag or open basket of dry peat moss.
