Growing Fire Lily
Summer bulb. Deciduous or evergreen. About 45 species. Stands to 18 in. (45 cm) tall. Straplike, arching, long green leaves.
Commonly cultivated species include fire lily, Cyrtanthus angustifolius; ifafa lily, Cyrtanthus mackenii; white ifafa lily, Cyrtanthus ochroleucus; and kei lily, Cyrtanthus sanguineus.

Flowers
Summer. Pink, red, white, yellow. Multiple flared, trumpet-shaped, amaryllis-like, fragrant flowers 1–1‑1/2‑in. (25–38‑mm) long.
Best Climates
U.S.D.A. Plant Hardiness Zones 7–11; ground hardy, zones 9–11.
Soil Type and Fertility
Damp, well-drained humus. Fertility: Rich. 6.2–6.8 pH
Where and How to Plant
Spring in full sun to partial shade. Space 6–12-in. (15–30-cm) apart, with neck at soil level.
Proper Care
Easy. Keep damp spring–summer; avoid overwatering. Reduce watering after bloom. Fertilize until buds form. Protect from frost, zones 7–9. Propagate by division, offsets, seed.
Lifting and Storing
Dark, 55–65°F (13–18°C), in net bag or open basket of dry peat moss.
About This Species
Good choice for beds, borders, containers in cottage, indoor gardens and landscapes. Good for cutting.
