Growing Spider Lily
Summer bulb. Deciduous. More than 30 species. Stands 10–36 in. (25–90 cm) tall. Mostly straplike, long green leaves.
Commonly cultivated species include inland spider plant, Hymenocallis caroliniana; spider-lily, Hymenocallis narcissiflora (formerly Ismene calathina); and winter-spice, Hymenocallis speciosa.

Flowers
Summer. Ivory, white. Graceful, morning-glory-like, fragrant flowers, to 6 in. (15 cm) wide, with long, thin petal tendrils.

Soil Type and Fertility
Moist, well-drained, sandy loam. Fertility: Rich–average. 6.0–6.5 pH.
Where and How to Plant
Spring in full sun. Space 6–18 in. (15–45 cm) apart, depending on species, slightly above soil level.
Proper Care
Easy. Keep moist spring–summer. Fertilize during growth. Mulch, zones 6–8. Protect from wind. Propagate by division, offsets, seed.
