Growing Orchid Pansy
Summer rhizome. Deciduous. About 26 species. Stands 1–2 ft. (30–60 cm) tall, often trailing. Oval, toothed, short, textured, hairy, olive green leaves, often with burgundy undersides.

Well-drained humus. Fertility: Rich. 6.0–7.5 pH.
Where and How to Plant
Late spring–early summer in partial shade. Protect from summer heat. Space 6–10 in. (15–25 cm) apart, 1 in. (25 mm) deep. In containers, space 1–2 in. (25–50 mm) apart.
Proper Care
Easy. Keep moist spring–summer. Fertilize during growth; dilute fertilizer to half the recommended rate. Mulch. Stake or allow to trail. Propagate by division.
Lifting and Storing
Dark, 50–60°F (10–16°C), in porous container of dampened peat moss.
About This Species
Good choice for hanging baskets, beds, borders, containers, edgings in cottage, formal gardens. Deer, rodent resistant. Spider mite, thrips susceptible.
