Growing Treasure Flower
About 16 species of rounded and shrublike or trailing, rhizomatous, evergreen, mostly perennial herbs, 10–18 in. (25–45 cm) tall, 1 ft. (30 cm) wide. Fuzzy, deep or silver green, narrow, lance-shaped, wavy-edged leaves, to 4 in. (10 cm) long, with silky white undersides, forming a circular, radiating base.
African-daisy gazania, Gazania rigens, is among the most commonly cultivated species of treasure flower.

Blooms
Solitary bronze, copper, orange, pink, red, white, yellow, and variegated, daisylike flowers, 2–4 in. (50–100 mm) wide, with yellow or dark centers, on erect stems, in late spring–summer. Flowers open at dawn, close at sunset.
Best Climates
Tender. Plant as annual, zones 3–6; ground hardy, zones 7–10. Thunberg’s treasure flower, Gazania linearis is semi-hardy, zones 5–10.
Soil Type and Fertility
Damp to dry, well-drained, sandy soil. Fertility: Average. 5.5–7.0 pH.

Spring in full to filtered sun, 18 in. (45 cm) apart.
Proper Care
