Growing Fuchsia
Many hybrids of slow-growing, semi-evergreen or evergreen shrubs, to 12 ft. (3.7 m) tall, with shiny, bronze, green, purple, oval to lance-shaped, finely toothed leaves, to 2 in. (50 mm) long.
Most hybrid fuchsias derive from brilliant fuchsia, Fuchsia fulgens, and hardy fuchsia, Fuchsia magellanica, two closely related species with similar care needs.

Flowers and Fruit
Many showy, nodding, cup- to funnel-shaped, star-pointed, blue, bronze, pink, purple, red, violet flowers, to 3 in. (75 mm) long, with long, pink, red, white sepals in summer, form purple, seedy berries in autumn.

U.S.D.A. Plant Hardiness Zones 7–10. Tender.
Soil Type and Fertility
Moist, well-drained humus. Fertility: Rich. 6.0–7.0 pH.
Where and How to Plant
Full to filtered sun. Space 3–4 ft. (90–120 cm) apart.
Proper Care
Moderate. Keep evenly moist. Fertilize monthly during active growth. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong bloom. Prune sparingly spring–autumn; cut to main branches in winter. Protect from frost in zones 7–8; sun, zones 9–10. Propagate by cuttings.
About This Species
Good choice for hanging baskets, borders, containers, walls in cottage, formal, woodland gardens. Good for espaliers, topiaries. Attracts birds, hummingbirds. Aphid, spider mite and chlorosis susceptible.
