Growing Canna
Summer rhizome. Semi-evergreen. About 9 species and many hybrids. Stands 4–16 ft. (1.2–4.9 m) tall. Showy, large, long, wide, bronze, green, purple, red, white, yellow leaves with variegated patterns, sometimes fringed.

Summer–autumn. Orange, pink, red, white, yellow, bicolor. Multiple clustered, terminal, repeat-blooming flowers to 6 in. (15 cm) wide.

Moist, well-drained soil. Fertility: Rich. 6.0–7.0 pH.
Where and How to Plant
Autumn in full sun, zones 7–11; spring, zones 3–6. Space 1–2 ft. (30–60 cm) apart, slightly below soil level.
Proper Care
Easy. Keep moist spring–early autumn. Fertilize until buds form. Deadhead flowers. Mulch. Protect from frost, zones 3–6. Propagate by division.
Lifting and Storing
Dark, 50–60°F (10–16°C), in net bag or open basket of dry peat moss.
About This Species
Good choice for accents, borders, containers in tropical gardens and landscapes. Attracts hummingbirds. Slug, snail susceptible.
